January 9

Herps in the Blue Hills Reservation

Tom Palmer, former NEHS librarian and accomplished nature photographer, will give a slide show of herps he's personally found in the Blue Hills Reservation (just south of Boston).  Tom is the author of Landscape with Reptile, the defininitive book on the timber rattlesnakes that continue to inhabit the Blue Hills..

February 13

Vernal Pool Certification

Matthew Burne, Vice-president of the Vernal Pool Association, Conservation Director for The Walden Woods Project, and formerly of Mass Wildlife's Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program, is looking for vernal pool certification volunteers. 

Matt will share details about a project to certify over 100 vernal ponds!

Poison Dart Frogs

Raymond Coderre, Executive Assistant to the Life Sciences Division at Harvard University, will talk about his recent trip to Peru to study poison dart frogs.  He'll speak on his experiences there and bring some live poison dart frogs to the talk.

Herp Walk on the NEWC Trails

Get lost in the woods behind the Wildlife Center. Intrepid vernal pond expert Rick Roth will demonstrate his navigational prowess for all to see!

Massachusetts Reptile Expo at the Rockland Holiday Inn

Over 50 dealers, breeders and hobbyists exhibiting and selling a wide variety of colorful and unusual reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Tanks, cages, terrarium supplies, books, and food animals will also be available at special show prices.

Basement Remodel for Reptile Room

NEHS Junior Member Michael Bannon will share his experiences remodeling a basement space for a reptile room.

July 10

New England Exotic Animal Sanctuary

Marc Johnson of the New England Exotic Animal Sanctary has offered NEHS an opportunity to tour their facility in Hope Valley, RI.  The private tour starts at 2pm.  Either go directly to the Sanctuary, or join the Convoy leaving the Wildlife Center at about 12pm.

Ross and Debby Swiechowicz will discuss the care of chameleons as compared to bearded dragons.
